Our Team

Ken Jewell, LPCC-S

Ken and his wife, Michelle, came to Westside in December 2024 after serving at Opportunity Church in Murray. In 2025, he helped establish Westside Counseling, where he provides professional counseling from a biblical perspective. Ken has served churches across Kentucky since entering the pastorate in 1990 and has also worked as a professional counselor in family practice and addiction treatment. He is passionate about helping people find hope and healing through practical, biblically grounded counsel.

Ken earned a Bachelor's degree from Mid-Continent Baptist Bible College, a Master of Divinity from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and a Master of Arts in Professional Counseling from Liberty University. He and Michelle have four adult children and four grandchildren. In their free time, they enjoy traveling, playing music, and spending time with their family, especially their grandchildren.

Why Counseling?

Westside Counseling was established because Westside Baptist Church leadership recognized the growing need to provide biblically-based professional counseling from a trained mental health provider. Our counselor, Ken Jewell, has extensive theological training (M.Div.) and pastoral experience (since 1990). He also has an M.A. in professional counseling and has been working in mental health counseling since 2015.

Ken has experience and training working with:

  • Couples doing premarital and marriage counseling.
  • Grief and loss, helping numerous people navigate the grief process.
  • Addiction and recovery for both chemical dependency and sexual addiction.
  • Anxiety and depression, teaching practical coping skills to reduce negative feelings.
  • Relationship challenges including parenting and other family-related issues, work-related challenges, and post-divorce challenges.
  • Forgiveness and reconciliation from past emotional wounds.

What to Expect?

Westside Counseling provides a safe, supportive environment where a person can openly share their problems with a counselor who will be kind, empathic, and truthful. At Westside Counseling, we believe that every person has intrinsic God-given worth, and we strive to mirror that core value with every person we serve. We value research-based clinical tools that are in harmony with biblical truth.

Each session at Westside will generally last 60 minutes, and clients will be offered handouts and homework assignments designed to support the work being done in session. The counselor will work with counselee to determine frequency of appointments, but the counselee will always be free to decrease or terminate counselee as they see fit.

Location

When you arrive, you will park close to the front entrance, where you will use the front doors of the Worship Center on the Robertson Road side. You will knock on the door on the far right side, and the counselor will greet you (doors stay locked to protect Kingdom Kids Learning Center).

Fees

Suggested donations for services are currently $90 for individuals and $100 for couples. Active members of Westside Baptist Church receive a 50% discount. We do not bill insurance companies, but can provide you with a superbill to give to insurance for reimbursement.
